The Geotechnical Engineering Lab investigates the mechanical behavior of soil and its interaction with structures. Understanding soil properties is critical for safe foundation design, slope stability, and earthworks in civil projects.

Key Activities

• Determine grain size distribution using sieve and hydrometer analysis.
• Perform Atterberg limits tests (liquid limit, plastic limit, shrinkage limit) to classify fine-grained soils.
• Conduct standard and modified Proctor compaction tests to find optimum moisture content and maximum dry density.
• Measure shear strength via direct shear, triaxial, and unconfined compression tests.
• Evaluate permeability using constant-head and falling-head permeameters for drainage design.
