Civil Engineering Department Fosters Student Development through Counselling and Guidance
The Department of Civil Engineering at the
World University of Bangladesh (WUB) held a Student Counselling Session on
August 14, 2025 at the Founding Treasurer Morsheda Choudhury Auditorium,
focusing on academic guidelines, scholarships, and student engagement. The
event brought together faculty members, administrative representatives, and
students, alongside distinguished guests including Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof.
Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Registrar Prof. Zaki Imam, and Joint Registrar Md. Kamrul
Hossain.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Sagor
Kumar Podder, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Civil
Engineering. Speaking on “Academic Guidelines, Scholarships, University
Policies, and Extra-Curricular Activities,” he emphasized discipline, academic
excellence, and the effective use of WUB’s facilities. He highlighted the
university’s growing reputation, noting its placement in the Times Higher
Education and EduRank 2025 global rankings.
Mr. Podder outlined the resources available to
students, which include modern classrooms, advanced laboratories, e-learning
support, a digital library, and campus-wide Wi-Fi. He also mentioned practical
facilities such as shuttle bus services that enhance accessibility and
convenience for students. A central theme of the session was financial support,
with detailed explanations of scholarship and tuition waiver schemes. These
opportunities, he explained, are designed not only for meritorious students but
also for under-represented groups, including women, ethnic minorities, children
of freedom fighters, and physically challenged learners.
In addition, Mr. Podder highlighted WUB’s
growing network of international collaborations with universities and
institutions in the USA, UK, Germany, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, and China.
Through these partnerships, students gain access to exchange programs, joint
research projects, and opportunities for global exposure.
The interactive format of the counselling
session allowed students to raise questions on academic policies, scholarships,
and career pathways, making the event an engaging and informative platform.
Faculty and administrative representatives also contributed to clarifying
student concerns.
By addressing both academic responsibilities and opportunities for personal development, the Student Counselling Session underscored WUB’s commitment to student welfare. The event reflected the university’s broader mission to nurture skilled graduates equipped with knowledge, discipline, and international experience, ensuring that Civil Engineering students are well-prepared for their academic and professional journeys.
